An honorary Knight, business man, philanthropist and the creative mind and vocals of the famous U2 group, Bono is one of the most influential people in the last few decades.
Always U2
Bono was born in Ireland, Dublin in 1960 as Paul David Hewson and has been in the U2 band since he was 16. He joined them while attending high-school and was made front man because of his singing talent. This is where the nickname “Bono Vux” meaning good voice which has stayed with him since then.
Only 4 years after they have been performing together, U2 released its debut album in 1980 called “Boy”. Their first Grammy Award was received for the album “The Joshua Tree”, which was their sixth album, and their breakthrough to the world audiences. The album also featured the hit song “With or Without You”.
They released albums through the 90’s like “Achtung Baby”and “Pop” which further established Bono and the U2 as pioneers in their field.
More then just music
Bono produced most of the lyrics of the songs himself with which he tried to raise the awareness to global issues. In 2006, Bono and U2 teamed up with Green Day to record a cover song f the Skids “The Saints Are Coming”, to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina which devastated New Orleans.
At the start of 2000’s, U2 released one of their best albums “All That You Can’t Leave Behind”. The album returned to its rock origins with simple yet powerful lyrics. The hit song “It’s a Beautiful Day” landed 2 Grammy Awards – one for “Record of The Year” and the second for “Song Of The Year”.
A man with a vision
Bono has always followed his dreams outside of music too. While he has used his fame to raise consciousness about many global problems, he also met with many world leaders and politicians to address some of the core issues of third-world countries.
He pursued his vision to relieve people of suffering and helped establish DATA which stands for Debt AIDS Trade Africa, an organization dedicated to ending poverty and AIDS in Africa. DATA has been established in 2002 and is a non-profit organization with backed-up by many other humanitarian organizations and celebrities.
