Budapest

Budapest is another great city on the Danube river. Geographically it is positioned on an excellent place. After the unification of 3 different cities, Buda and Obuda on one side of the river and Pest on the other side, Budapest became a city in 1873 and is today a capital of Hungary. City is hosting almost 2 millions of inhabitants and is the economical hub of the region.

Hungarian architecture to droll over

Most of really fascinating architecture sites are in the center of the city and can be visited on foot or reached by tram, bus or train. City transport system has developed well in last decades but still has it’s bad sides. Lucky for visitors is that old town center can be visited on foot, like in most cities, even bigger then Budapest is. And you have a lot to visit in Budapest center, especially if you make some walks on the banks of the Danube river and around the castle.

A city with a vivid history

Different eras of Budapest history are somehow still present in the architecture style, even if Art-Nouveau style is visible on almost every step. What visitors will find out quickly is that buildings in Budapest are many times almost huge. One of them is surely the Royal Palace, which was redesigned few times in its history. It is not the only palace in the city. Today the Budapest History Museum found its place in one of its buildings. And of course, this is not the only good museum in Budapest. There are lots more.

Also what you can experience in Budapest is a good cuisine, which can be still traditional or a mix of west and east European. Also Hungarians are known for their wines, they even have the famous brand Tokaj, which grows in UNESCO protected area of vineyards. Also they’re known about music. Classical (F. Liszt) and Hungarian traditional. While being in the city, don’t forget to visit the Labyrinth (don’t ask how to come out of it) and the great Hungarian National Gallery treasuring the arts from medieval times to the present century.
