Sunny capital

A pearl of Dalmatia region in southeastern Croatia, Split is an extremely popular resort city.
Split was build around the Diocletian Palace, a UNESCO world heritage location, for a Roman emperor that went by the name of Diocletian. Split is known to be very sunny because it has over 220 days of sun each year. This has earned it the nickname “The Mediterranean Flower” and many people come here for the ultimate beach experience.

Split is a great place to experience Croatia’s waters. Most beaches are long and sandy with ice cream vendors, juice bars and restaurants at your fingertips. Popular activities include snorkeling, diving and most of the beaches are geared towards families and water sports.
Split has tons of attractions worth seeing from museums to old ruins from Roman times, but what most stands out are the plentiful beaches of the city. It actually has the oldest cathedral on the planet called Saint Duje’s Cathedral, at almost 1700 years of age it is a beautiful combination of Roman and Catholic architecture. Also worth visiting is Archaeological Museum, the oldest museum in Croatia holding many items from the Roman times.

Sports and sandy beaches

But despite Split’s obvious orientation towards beaches and tourism it is also a place of sports. Many of the 80’s basketball superstars come from the city. It was also home to the famous Jugoplastika basketball team who won against Barcelona and Maccabi Tel Aviv. Perhaps most known is club Hajduk, a split football team that is very well known throughout Europe and play many matches in the Poljud Stadium in Split.
Split invites with its beautiful nature and great beaches people from all over the world. Here you have a chance to enjoy Croatia and its waters without and trouble. Split isn’t just another ancient cultural city, it is also a place of many sport legends, fine dining and an excellent place to relax.
