A young star on the rise
One of the most popular female artists of our time, Rihanna became world-famous after the release of her 2005 hit single “Pon De Replay”. Since then Rihanna is in the making of her 8th album called “Anti”.
Rihanna was born Robyn Rihanna Fenty in 1988 20th of February in the island of Barbados. Rihanna had a rough childhood, particularly because of her fathers addiction to alcohol.
This has led her to create a girl singing group when she was 15 to alleviate herself for a short time from home. Rihanna and her two classmates with whom she created the group got a chance to perform for Evan Ridgers, a music producer that was holidaying on Barbados.
Only a year later, when Rihanna was 16, she moved to United States with her new music producer and his wife to work on a demo album. Moving to a whole new location didn’t bother her and she was glad she moved away from her troubled past in Barbados.
In 2005 she landed an audition with Jay-Z who was the president of Def Jam Records and he was extremely impressed with the young artist. He signed a contract with her on the spot and about 8 months later in late summer of 2005, Rihanna released “Pon de Replay”, her very first single.
Rihanna enjoyed great success with her first single and it stayed on the 2nd place of the Billboard singles chart. She was fast in the making of her first album which came out only a month later called Music of the Sun, and in 2006 released her second album A Girl Like me that was a huge success.
Rihanna changed a lot soon after her two albums from an adorable girl to a superstar. This was mostly observed with the release of her third album “Good Girl Gone Bad” and her top smashing hit “Umbrella”
The song “Umbrella” was such a hit that it earned Rihanna her very first Grammy Award with Jay-Z for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.
